The building, located directly in the Varvakeios central market district, was built in the late 1920s and is owned by the Bageion Foundation. As a new business incubator to be provided by the City of Athens, it will contribute to the reactivation of the area. Designed to house entrepreneurial activities of young designers in the clothing, jewelry and crafts design industries, it will offer infrastructures, office and studio spaces, common showrooms and secretariat services; also scientific support, accounting, business, financing and networking guidance. Companies will be hosted for a period of 3-5 years. The new design respects the old architectural features and enhances them with the use of new materials. The interior atrium contributes to the bio-climatic design, combined with operable parts in the interior curtain walls. Transparencies enhance natural lighting and a green roof -with an enclosed lounge- adds to the building’s sustainability and energy performance.
